Roles:
Lead Artist, Sprite Designer, Animator, Sound Designer, Musician, Level Designer, Writer
My main role on this project was handling the visual and audio style of the game, as well as writing the story, designing the gameplay, and creating the main message behind the game. This includes the sprite design / animations, the sound design, the music, the writing, the level design and a small portion of programming. Each character, enemy, setting, and cutscene were designed by me, and I Co-designed the main gameplay loop, as well as each core game mechanic.
Description:
Hardworking Robo-Frog is a 2-D platformer about a frog trying to make the long journey home. With his trusty robot legs & grappling hook tongue, Robo-Frog must make it through 3 levels focused on moving fast, and working hard. When designing how each character would fit into a level, I made sure each important element would stand out, I want each one of my interactive art pieces to be accessible for all audiences, so I created my sprites with visual impairments and color blindness in mind. The main theme / message behind this game is the idea that you should feel bad for being born different, we all start off in life at different places but at the end of the day, those who put in hard work are capable of great things. The main character of this game: “Robo-Frog” is a frog who was born without the ability to jump great distances like every other frog can. Through his hard work, he was able to create robotic legs for himself, allowing him to jump high. The people he interacts with throughout his journey try and tell him that he is incredibly talented, downplaying the hardships he faced and the growth he achieved. At the end of his journey, he comes to realize he is capable of so much, even if he wasn’t born talented. This message is mainly targeted towards those who struggle with self-acceptance, and artists who struggle with feeling like they aren’t good enough, but there is a general theme of “Working hard” that anyone can learn from.
