This was a solo project, where my main role was to write an enjoyable poetry collection, including some writing concepts learned in the creative writing class I was taking at the time.
Description:
This poetry collection was created for my intro to creative writing class and contains 3 poems. The 3 poems are: “Weight of Isolation”, “How to define what has no meaning”, and “Our Caffeination”. In creating this project, I used different techniques learned in class including Rythm, Sound, Concrete Vs. Abstract, and Structure. The first poem: “Weight of Isolation” uses both Rythm and Sound to create a more positive tone, one that contrasts with the darker subject matter of the poem. All three of the poems contain abstract descriptions to create unique visuals, and concrete descriptions to guide the user along the poem. Each poem has a different structure, “Weight of Isolation” pairs each line in 2, “How to define what has no meaning” leaves blank spaces to keep the user asking questions, and “Our Caffeination” separates each line to give the reader time to breathe. These poems were created for anyone to enjoy, but each poem has a separate target audience. As the title suggests, “Weight of Isolation” is intended for whoever is feeling isolated, and to help others understand what isolation can do to a person.
